Greater Omaha Packing Co., Inc. History

2011 - “New Expansion” - World wide demand for Greater Omaha product is so strong, we are out growing our current facility. The good news is, we are expanding to accommodate our customer’s needs. Construction is scheduled to be complete Spring of 2012 at which time we will have added 40,000 square feet to our processing plant. Our expansion will enable us to further serve and supply our customers, now and into the future. You are welcome to follow our progress by visiting our website and viewing future photo updates.

*2000 - July, 7th New slaughter plant adjacent to Greater Omaha fabrication plant at 30th and "L" St. is opened. The expansion increases daily production capacity to 2400 head. Designed to stress food safety, humane handling, safety and production efficiencies, the plant is a contemporary phenomenon.

*1996 - April, 6th New fabrication plant opens. Modern, more efficient and larger processing facility allows Greater Omaha Packing to grow from 800 head to 1400 head capacity. The increased capacity allows Greater Omaha to compete more effectively in national and global markets.

*1996 - September - Trex Corporation, a global export company, is formed to grow Greater Omaha’s market share worldwide.

*1994 - August - High Country Meats, a meat distribution company out of Denver, CO becomes part of Greater Omaha Packing’s distribution team.

*1992 - April - Henry Davis, President of Greater Omaha Packing Co. makes the key decision to move the company from its past as a carcass processor into its future as a boxed beef and value added processor. A fabrication facility is acquired and box beef production begins.

*1973 - Upon graduation from the University of Denver, Henry Davis joins Greater Omaha Packing Co. to learn the beef business under the tutelage of his father, Pennie Z. Davis.

*1945 - Pennie Z. Davis joins his father-in-law, Herman Cohen, as a partner at Greater Omaha Packing. Pennie would later become president of the company.

*1920 - Upon his return from World War I, Herman Cohen, mustered out of the U.S. Army with $100. Herman Cohen took his modest fortune to the stockyards in Omaha, NE and invested it in cattle, working out an arrangement with a partner to buy cattle and sell the beef, while the partner sold the hides. Herman Cohen’s word was his bond and that reputation helped him make his business grow thru the depression and into the future.
